What if I told you I found the Ted Lasso of 2022? CBS’s Ghosts is the best-hidden gem you may not have discovered yet. The first season introduced us to a ragtag group of ghosts. All stuck together at the Woodstone Mansion, a country estate owned by Sophia Woodstone, the great aunt of Samantha (Sam), who inherited the home. The cast has incredible chemistry together and is quite possibly the best group of performers in a sitcom since Friends or The Office.

Sam and her husband Jay decide to turn the Woodstone Mansion into a bed and breakfast. After a near-death experience ends up leaving Sam the ability to see ghosts, chaos ensues. Viewers meet ghosts from various eras in time, including the Viking struck by lightning Thorfinn, 18^th century Captain Isaac Higgintoot, 1800s lady of the manor Hetty Woodstone, 1920s Prohibition era Alberta Haynes, 1960s hippie Flower and more.

The first season, which premiered in October 2021, was the perfect anecdote to the ongoing pandemic. It’s an adaptation of a British show with the same name that began a few years ago. The first season introduced us to many ghosts and explained a lot about the group of ghouls at Woodstone Mansion, including why ‘90s Wall Street guy Trevor doesn’t wear pants and a deeper dive into the life of the Lenape Tribe member Sasappis.

In preparation for the second season (most of which is being kept tightly under wraps), we spoke to two actors who portray ghosts on the show: Danielle Pinnock and Devan Chandler-Long. They shared season two secrets and behind-the-scenes fun from the tight-knit cast.

Pinnock plays lounge singer from the Prohibition era Alberta Haynes, and Chandler-Long plays Viking Thorfinn, the oldest ghost at Woodstone.

“I’m so excited to tease that Alberta will be getting a flashback this season in all her 1920s glory,” Pinnock said. “I just have to say filming that episode was a dream come true. It was fun to be in a different wardrobe since I wear the same outfit all the time.” For those wondering, the ghosts all wear what they died in, day in and day out.

It was also cool to see who this woman was before she passed away and how celebrated she was,” Pinnock added. “We’ll find out if she was murdered or not too.”

Pinnock loves that Alberta is so different from who she is. While Pinnock is a self-described “recluse” and “homebody,” Alberta is what she calls a “delicious diva who is confident and tells it like it is.”

While Alberta is out drinking Sazerac at 1920s jazz clubs, Pinnock’s idea of fun is sitting in her living room, watching Netflix and reality TV, and playing Jenga with her husband.

“The other night, we had a game of Go Fish that got so intense!” Pinnock said. “I’m a homebody through and through. I love to cook at home, make my focaccia bread and just chill.”

As far as on-set life, Pinnock said it’s rare you get a cast like theirs, where everyone is so in sync. “To say I’m grateful is an understatement,” she added. “Going to work feels like such an honor, and I’m so excited every day that I step on the lot because I’m going to play with some of my best friends.”

If you’re wondering who makes her break when filming, Pinnock named Thorfinn himself, Devan Chandler-Long.

“He’s always talking about ram testicles and roaring and screaming,” she said. “He cracks me up the most.”

Thorfinn’s voice is Chandler-Long’s favorite part of his character. He already had the voice “in the bag,” as he mentioned he often uses it cooking or talking to his dog.

“I’m part Norwegian with strong Viking roots, so I’m in touch with that whole side of me,” Chandler-Long said. “When this project came up, I could finally bring it to the table!”

Pinnock’s husband Jack is a dialect coach, and when Chandler-Long approached him asking what kind of accent Thorfinn had, he used a term that “basically meant it was nothing,” he said. “But it works!”

Chandler-Long thinks Thorfinn must have learned English from fellow older ghosts Hetty or Isaac.

When describing his character, Chandler-Long called him a lovable teddy bear who can murder you too but wears his heart on his sleeve. “He loves laughing and is primal as hell. He’s masculine without being toxic. He loves his TV,” he added, ticking off the qualities that make Ghosts fans love Thor.

The chemistry the cast shows on-screen is just as good off-screen. Chandler-Long said it is reminiscent of playing football, which he did growing up.

“My team in college was 100 guys from all different walks of life who all found a way to get along and strive toward a common goal. I went to battle with them every day,” he added.

He compared his Ghosts family to the team, saying they all “work their asses off,” When it’s time to hang out and enjoy each other, there’s a lot of love.

Regarding Season 2 teasers, Chandler-Long said we will discover more ghosts around Woodstone Mansion and its grounds.

“Obviously, Thor will be pushing hard for Flower still—we’ll see how hard he goes with that, it might not be romantic, but he’ll shoot his shot,” Chandler-Long said. “Other than that, he’s just stoked to be watching TV and messing around with the crew.”

CBS recently released a season 2 teaser. It leaves plenty of questions but does tease that Jay may just be able to see the most fun bunch of specters to haunt an old mansion since Casper. You can watch that here.
