I grew up with DC comics, I wasn’t a Marvel girl, I was a DC girl. I just loved it and I know it so well. So imagine how sad I was when I never found myself super excited for the DCEU. That has changed a bit over the years with the great Wonder Woman, Shazam and Aquaman. But now, it seems that the DCEU has found its stride and it looks to keep it going with their newest addition, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).
Harley Quinn was the best part of Suicide Squad and Margot Robbie’s portrayal was so great that it’s no surprise that Warner Bros looked into creating spin-offs around her. Rumours is that a trilogy around Harley will take place, the first one being Birds of Prey, followed by Gotham City Sirens and supposed to end with a film with both teams. It will be interesting to see how it will all fit together but just with our first look at this one, I am more than excited.
Joining Robbie’s Harley Quinn are Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli aka Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Dinah Lance aka Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain aka Orphan, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan McGregor as Roman Sionis aka Black Mask. With an all-star cast like this and being the first R-rated DCEU film, Birds of Prey looks to be a lot of fun. Cathy Yan, who is best known for her comedy-drama Dead Pigs, looks to bring a dose of humour and fun which I am excited for. Pair that with the extremely long but fun title, Birds of Prey for sure looks to be fun from start to finish.
