Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker [Review]

(Please note that this review is not spoiler-free as I had to go into detail to explain why I felt the way I felt.)

Nostalgia is probably the biggest thing in cinema and television right now. With all the reboots and sequels, the idea of nostalgia drives a lot of the film that we get. Sometimes it works, others not so much. But more then none, it creates a product that feels like something we have seen before. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker feels like that, a product that was created simply to cater to the fans that felt betrayed by the previous instalment. Rise of Skywalker isn’t a bad movie per se, but when placed right after what I considered to be one of the best Star Wars movie ever, then it feels jarring and is not a satisfying end to a saga that spanned 40 years.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker [Trailer]

If you know me, you know one thing, Star Wars is everything to me. There’s so much that I love about it and I will always love about it. Unlike many, I loved The Last Jedi, though it was one of the best films in the series. So for me, The Rise of Skywalker has to accomplish a lot. It needs to continue the story of our three new main characters, it needs to live up to my expectations and needs to conclude one of the best sagas ever created. That’s a lot to ask for a film, but at the same time, it’s Star Wars so I expect nothing else than perfection at this point. With the D23 Expo that happened this weekend, it was just a matter of time before a trailer came out and this morning, we all woke up to this gem.
